Texas Hill Country

We had one week in Texas and wanted to see as much as possible. That was easier said than done since it's such a massive state! In order to get a taste of the countryside as well as some of the big cities, we decided to spend a few days at a cabin in the middle of nowhere.

I am not typically a cabin person, but as long as it had electricity, plumbing, and air-conditioning... I was up for having an adventure.

This was the view from our cabin's back porch. There was really nothing around besides the occasional wildlife.

We stopped by Texas' smallest town, Luckenbach, to start off our Hill Country sightseeing. How small? It has a population of 3.

There is a general store that used to be the town's post office back when it had a few more residents. Seemed like a good place for a Mommy and Magnolia photo shoot!

We also explored some of the shops, restaurants, and a pretty church in nearby Fredericksburg. Both of these towns were founded by German immigrants.

Fredericksburg is home to the very impressive Museum of the Pacific War, thanks to being the hometown of Admiral Chester Nimitz (commander of the Pacific fleet during WWII). As a WWII nerd, I was very excited to see this museum.

In fact, I specifically planned our trip itinerary so that we would go to the museum on my birthday. Magnolia had other plans. After long 3 days of traveling, she was done. She had been such a trooper during hot and tiring sightseeing days that I couldn't blame her.

We ended up leaving after seeing maybe half of the museum. But the half we did see was spent stressing out over trying to soothe our sad baby and not actually seeing the museum. The little bit we did see looked very cool. If I ever find myself in this corner of the world again, I will be back!

David and I both picked out a book from the gift shop to learn some more instead.  :)

Magnolia passed out later that day:

The last thing on our agenda before heading to another big city (San Antonio) was to see some nature. We made it to Enchanted Rock State Park to see some Texas terrain.

We did one short hike in the 100 degree weather and were satisfied with at least getting a taste of the park.
